After my mother’s death, the bond I had with my roots was broken. With a grant from the United Arts Council, I spent a year photographing my hometown of Sanford, NC as a way to understand my past, my community and the culture that made me who I am. I found that a culture is its people. The people who make a community (no matter their status, color, class, background, job, etc) all equally contribute to the feeling of a place. So what I discovered was that I am merely just a single drop in an ocean of life, which can feel insignificant, but also equally as important as all the other drops.
This is A Fair View, the people and scenes of Sanford, NC.
